Autumn 2026: A Provençal Reverie
Autumn 2026: A Provençal Reverie
Ananbô elegance brought to life in signature interiors, luxury hotels and major design events.
At the crossroads of our interior designer and exceptional hospitality clientele.
Ananbô was born from a sense of nostalgia: for the lost, quintessentially French 19th-century art of panoramic wallpaper.
These striking murals, unfolding life-size landscapes before the eye, adorned palaces, reception rooms and prestigious residences until 1865.
Today, the Maison is reviving this forgotten art, in the strictest respect of the historical tradition behind its original success:
originals hand-painted by the artists in our workshops, and an imaginary world inspired by the two parts of the Globe most conducive to dreaming: the European South and the tropics of the East.
Born in France at the end of the 18th century, luxury panoramic wallpaper became a national specialty, the result of technical innovations and a pronounced taste for romantic exoticism. These bespoke wall murals reflect the 19th century’s fascination with philosophical travel and the study of distant civilizations, in the spirit of Humboldt’s accounts or Chateaubriand’s descriptions. From 1790 onwards, manufacturers such as Joseph Dufour in Mâcon and other pioneering companies of the period revolutionized interior decoration with painted panoramas inspired by travel narratives and the fascination for distant landscapes.
The spread of panoramic wallpaper was closely linked to the rise of European Romanticism. At a time when nature was perceived as a space for contemplation and dreaming, interiors were expected to invite escape. These artistic wallpapers also benefited from technical advances such as chromolithography, which enabled the faithful reproduction of the subtle nuances of the original paintings.
The great 19th-century manufacturers helped perfect this art by incorporating techniques such as iris printing, which made it possible to create skies with more natural gradients, as well as multi-color printing, which enriched the palette and brought greater depth to the scenes depicted. The first modern panoramic wallpapers for sophisticated interiors were designed to completely envelop a room, creating a total immersion in a landscape.
With the expansion of trade and cultural influences between Europe and Asia, panoramic wallpaper also began to incorporate motifs inspired by Japanese gardens, the coastlines of Southeast Asia and Mediterranean architecture. Bespoke commissions made it possible to adapt these murals to the sophisticated interiors of grand aristocratic residences and prestigious hotels. This diversity of inspiration continues today at Ananbô, where each collection captures the essence of a rich and captivating visual universe.
The success of high-end wallpaper rests on meticulous execution, with every color and every gradient applied with extreme precision. In Ananbô’s workshops, each luxury decorative panel is based on an original creation, hand-produced by artists who perpetuate the pictorial techniques of the 19th century.
Our wall murals are printed in France on a bespoke wall covering for hotels, carefully selected to faithfully reproduce every nuance and capture light without unwanted reflection. We use deep natural inks, ensuring rich colors and exceptional durability over time.
Every stage of production is designed to preserve the artistic quality of bespoke panoramic wallpaper for luxurious interiors. Our artists use traditional drawing techniques, enhanced by modern tools that guarantee faithful reproduction of textures and painterly nuances. The choice of materials also plays a key role: the combination of non-woven papers and natural pigments gives our creations genuine depth.
From its origins, panoramic wallpaper was not limited to a decorative function. It belonged to a tradition in which imagery became an educational and sensory tool. Inspired by great expeditions, it offered inhabitants idealized views of distant lands, at a time when travel remained a rare privilege.
The influence of the Age of Enlightenment can also be seen in these monumental works. They reflect the encyclopedic ambition to capture, across vast wall murals, the diversity of the known world, like the panoramas inspired by explorers’ accounts and the great European landscape traditions of the 19th century.
The Neoclassical and Romantic style can be found in many of Ananbô’s inspirations. We have helped revive the great tradition of trompe-l’œil wallpaper, a style that has experienced several cycles over the centuries and that we have modernized while preserving its essence. Our elegant wall decorations for exceptional living rooms, our tropical forest scenes and our compositions inspired by the European South create immersive spaces at the border between dream and reality.
Our creations have won over leading interior decorators and today adorn the walls of exceptional places around the world. Five-star hotels, outstanding private residences, majestic entrance halls, as well as high-end offices choose Ananbô to elevate their interiors.
The appeal of these typically French chic wall murals extends beyond private clients: our murals also find their place in prestigious settings such as palaces, embassies and haute couture boutiques. Each project is designed to measure, in close collaboration with architects and designers committed to preserving the harmony and nobility of the spaces they create.
In a world dominated by the ephemeral, we are bringing the notion of timelessness back into focus. Our panoramic wallpapers are designed to stand the test of time without losing their beauty, embodying refinement and a passion for beauty. An invitation to dream, to travel and to rediscover the French art of living.
In the historic tradition of French panoramic wallpaper, bespoke full-length designs that weave an interior horizon.
Hand-painted originals, the depth of a work of art unfolding through space for interiors with character.
